THE BEST OF THE 2014 KITCHEN AND BATH SHOWBy
The 2014 Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas exceeded all expectations. For the first time the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) co-located to create Design and Construction Week. This is one of the world’s largest gatherings focused on new ideas, products and technologies for designing, building and remodeling homes. An estimated 70,000 people came to Las Vegas for this show.
Here are a few of my favorites from the show.
Technology based items were everywhere from blue tooth enabled key locks to docking stations for all our electronic gadgets. The new KEVO deadbolt locking system was amazing. Programming the entry into your house for workers or guests from anywhere with the use of your smart phone is just one of the many functions.
New cabinet organization products are always of great interest at this show. Pullout details in upper and lower cabinets make full use of interior cabinet space. Cut-out roll out shelves in a vanity cabinet insures easy access and better space utilization.
New LED lighting options were everywhere. We have been using LED fixtures for about two years but we learned a few more tricks about incorporating lighting in all the nooks and crannies of cabinets. My favorite was interior lighting for cabinet drawers and a Lazy Susan base cabinet. With LED’s you will never be without light in hard to see interiors. I am really a fan of this technology. Many appliance manufacturers returned to this show with some great new products. Induction cooking surfaces, steam ovens and many “smart” control features were the highlights. With Thermador’s steam and convection oven you can cook a moist, golden brown 14 lb turkey in just 90 minutes. This would surely make holiday food prep easier! I also love the Thermador Freedom Full Surface Induction cooktop. This cooktop allows you to place four pots or pans anywhere on the cooking surface and adjust the heat to the size of the pan. The Wine Station by Dacor would be a wine enthusiast’s dream come true. There is perfect temperature controls for up to four bottles of your favorite vino.
Of course it was not always all work and no play!
