Photo Finish – What Finish is Right for You?

When it came to kitchen and bath design, it used to be that you picked your hardware and plumbing fixture finishes based on the style you were going for.  If you were trying to achieve a more contemporary or transitional look, you instantly went for the brushed nickel or chrome.  If you wanted a more traditional feel, you would be more likely to have chosen a brass or oil rubbed bronze finish.  Not true anymore!

Here are some examples of how you can pick the same finish for two completely different looks with successful results.

Brushed Nickel

Brushed Nickel has been and still is very popular. It’s timelessness works great in traditional, contemporary and transitional design.

Chrome often has the reputation of being contemporary for how well it works in crisp, clean modern designs.  However, it can work nicely in traditional details as well.  Check out the chrome turned legs on this classic white vanity.

Oil Rubbed Bronze

Oil rubbed bronze works beautifully with stained cabinetry.  But, look at how it adds contrast to this mostly white kitchen.

Gold or Brass

It’s back!  Gold or Brass finishes are the latest trend we are seeing in the plumbing industries.  Often seen in more traditional design, we’re now seeing it incorporated in very sleek and industrial faucets.

To make things even more fun (or challenging, depending on your view), you can even mix and match finishes.  It’s nice to combine two and spread it between you faucet, hardware, appliances, or sink.

How did you select your finishes?  Need help picking?  We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
