Dichroic Dazzle

Description

“Dichroic Dazzle” is an enchanting visual experience. Glistening like sunlight on the water, The focal point of this piece is undoubtedly its namesake, dichroic glass. The word dichroic comes from two Greek roots: “di” meaning two and “chroma” meaning colors. Known for its ability to refract light in multiple colors, it changes the viewing experience depending on the angle of light and you will never have the same viewing experience twice.

The technique involves fusing multiple ultra-thin layers of transparent oxides of metals such as titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium, or silica, and then vaporizing them with an electron beam in a vacuum chamber. The vapor then condenses on the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure. The artist has mastered the combination of glass and metal elements to create this calming and ever-changing kaleidoscope of hues. 

With a custom steel stand, this piece would look beautiful indoors to add a sense of motion and calming water. Or outside to hypnotically shine in the sun. Regardless of where it is displayed, it will spark conversation about the endless possibilities of life and deeply inspire you!
