Ripple Wall Sconce/pair

$485.00

This “Sconce Pair” is a gorgeous set of glasswork by Mary Sherwood. The term comes from the old French term meaning “a lantern or hiding place,” a medieval tool considered to hide in plain sight. The sconces were hung parallel like a beacon of light, illuminating the darkness and offering hope to a hopeless place.

Using rich teals, crimson, yellows, and iridescent jewels – these works are rejuvenating to the eyes and soul. They offer a play of light that is endlessly beautiful.

Description

This image showcases a striking fused glass wall art installation consisting of two asymmetrical, complementary pieces. Each piece is composed of vibrant translucent colors, including deep blue, golden amber, and burnt orange, arranged in a layered fashion.

The design features a rough, textured blue section at the top, resembling sky or water, transitioning into a smooth golden amber section, which has an embedded wavy line that gives the piece an organic, flowing feel. A bold metallic accent strip with a small blue diamond detail adds contrast and depth. The lower sections taper into jagged, pointed edges, mirroring the rough texture at the top, giving the work a dynamic, almost geological appearance.

The interplay of colors, textures, and shapes suggests an abstract representation of desert landscapes, possibly inspired by southwestern or indigenous art traditions. The way the two pieces mirror each other creates a sense of harmony and balance, making it an eye-catching contemporary piece suited for modern interior spaces.
