Description

This piece is the epitome of joy! You will smile as you dive into the movement and lighthearted essence of “Agave Gone Wild,” an homage to the native succulent found right outside of Mary Sherwood’s home studio in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.

The artist’s eye was caught by the way color plays with the sun in this region. She experimented with a glass overlay technique – first painting the deeper shades on canvas to add dimension, then layering this with a clear glass overlay with multi-color vitrigraph cane.

In Aztec mythology, the agave plant was a sacred symbol of passion and transformation, a plant that reawakened the spirit and gave new purpose to life. In person, the colors fly right off the canvas, appearing to be alive. You will feel the spark of creativity in your home and embody its transformative essence.

Acrylic painting on 12” round canvas, covered with a glass overlay that adds depth to the piece.
